Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting for students in school settings is preferred
- Valid or pending Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting, or proof of application submitted
- EIPA score of 3.0 or higher required
- Strong interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with students, teachers, and support staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Key Responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one with an assigned elementary student throughout the school day
- Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and educational staff using sign language
- Support the student’s participation in all classroom activities and school routines
- Adapt interpreting approach as needed for various classroom materials and situations
- Collaborate with educational team members to foster an inclusive learning atmosphere
- Maintain accurate records as required by school policies
