Qualifications & Experience
- EIPA score of 3.5+ with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approval, or
- EIPA score of 3.0–3.4 with interim ISBE approval, or
- BEI or NIC credentials with ISBE approval
- Prior experience in educational interpreting, ideally with high school students
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Commitment to supporting students’ communication and educational goals
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site sign language interpretation for high school students (grades 9–12)
- Work with a small caseload (12 students total), interpreting for classes with typically 1 student per session
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to promote accessible learning environments
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to best practices in educational interpreting
- Support student participation during instruction, activities, and school events
