Qualifications & Experience

  • EIPA score of 3.5+ with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approval, or
  • EIPA score of 3.0–3.4 with interim ISBE approval, or
  • BEI or NIC credentials with ISBE approval
  • Prior experience in educational interpreting, ideally with high school students
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Commitment to supporting students’ communication and educational goals

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site sign language interpretation for high school students (grades 9–12)
  • Work with a small caseload (12 students total), interpreting for classes with typically 1 student per session
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to promote accessible learning environments
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to best practices in educational interpreting
  • Support student participation during instruction, activities, and school events
