Educational Sign Language Interpreter - New Orleans, LA

Step into a rewarding contract role providing vital support to hearing-impaired students in a vibrant school setting near New Orleans, LA. Starting as soon as possible and working through May 27, 2027, you’ll enjoy a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar. Working under the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism in the Student Support Unit, you’ll play a key part in enabling students with hearing impairments to realize their academic and social potential.
What You'll Do:
- Deliver IEP-directed educational services to hearing-impaired students across one or more schools
- Work collaboratively with regular classroom teachers to ensure learning materials and assessments meet students’ needs
- Facilitate communication and provide in-service training for school staff to foster an inclusive environment for hearing-impaired students
- Request and troubleshoot auditory equipment such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including IEPs, progress notes, and quarterly reports for parents and school administration
- Consult regularly with diverse school personnel to support student success
- Other duties assigned by the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a valid Louisiana teacher’s certification in the Hearing Impaired category
- At least 3 years’ experience working with hearing-impaired students in regular education settings
- Basic proficiency in sign language, strong communication skills, and collaborative style
- Experience analyzing educational data and applying sound problem-solving strategies
- Confidence working with assistive technology for the hearing impaired
- Proficient with computer-based recordkeeping and IEP processes
- Must complete district-required fingerprinting and drug screening
