Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills in educational settings.
- Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent credential according to state or national standards.
- Previous experience in schools or with 1:1 student assignments is preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Ability to collaborate with educators, families, and other professionals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 interpretive services for a student within classroom and school-related activities.
- Accurately convey spoken language into sign, and sign language into spoken language, as appropriate for student needs.
- Modify and adapt communication methods to fit evolving classroom situations.
- Consult regularly with educational teams to optimize student support.
- Advocate for accessible communication and student inclusion in all school experiences.
- Participate in meetings or training sessions as needed.
