Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other modes of communication for the deaf and hard of hearing
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within school settings is preferred
- State and national certification as a Sign Language Interpreter is highly desirable
- Ability to build effective rapport with students and educational staff
- Commitment to inclusivity, confidentiality, and professional ethics
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, 1:1 sign language interpreting services to support a student during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and other school personnel
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the unique needs of the student
- Participate in educational team meetings and collaborate with staff to ensure optimal support
- Maintain accurate records of interpreted sessions as required
- Promote an inclusive learning environment where all students have equal access to instruction
