Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Nipomo, California
Bring your expertise in sign language interpretation to support K-12 students across multiple locations near Nipomo, CA, in this contract position for the 26-27 school year. You'll play an essential role ensuring accessible communication for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings, helping facilitate their full inclusion and participation in classroom activities.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Valid California SLP license or California CTC credential, as required for school interpreters
- Prior experience in a school or educational environment preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and staff across grade levels (K-12)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a caring and professional demeanor
- Flexibility to travel between sites in Pismo Beach, Santa Maria, and Edna as needed
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Support student understanding and participation by adapting interpreting to individual needs
- Collaborate with educators and special services staff to ensure effective accommodations
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district protocols and the interpreter code of ethics
- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions and uphold high standards of service
