Sign Language Interpreter in Oroville, CA
Bring your passion for sign language and education to a dynamic school setting where your skills will support deaf and hard of hearing students. In this contract role, you will facilitate access to learning by bridging communication between students, peers, and school staff. Your expertise and compassion will empower students at both elementary and intermediate levels, helping them thrive academically and socially. Preference for student age group can be accommodated.
Key qualifications and background:
- Certification from the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a minimum EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI score of 4.0; applicants with EIPA under 4.0 considered as ASL Para
- Experience with sign to voice and voice to sign interpreting
- Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other personnel
- Commitment to supporting students in academics as well as vocational and life skills
- Prior experience in an educational or school-based setting preferred
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing clear and effective interpretation for deaf and hard of hearing students
- Assisting students with academic subjects such as reading, writing, and math
- Supporting students in developing vocational and/or independent living skills
- Helping monitor student engagement during class, outdoor, and community activities
- Fostering an inclusive environment for students and staff
This full-time, onsite position averages 30 hours per week, with approximately 6 hours daily during the school year. Multiple positions are available to meet the consistent and growing needs of the student population.
