Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Plainfield, Illinois

Make a meaningful impact on students’ lives by providing one-on-one support as an onsite ASL Interpreter in a dynamic school environment near Plainfield, IL. This contract position offers the chance to work closely with a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student, ensuring they receive equal access to education throughout the academic day.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Sign Language Interpreter License (IL License Required)
- Proven experience working 1:1 with DHH youth in a school or educational setting
- Familiarity with state and district regulations for educational interpreters
- Flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills
- Collaborative mindset to partner with educators, therapists, and families
- District-mandated credentials such as Professional Educator License (PEL) or Para Certification (if required by the district)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exemplify professionalism in a school setting
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time American Sign Language interpretation in the classroom, during activities, and throughout the school day
- Foster an inclusive environment by facilitating two-way communication between the DHH student and peers, teachers, and staff
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs, supporting both academic progress and social participation
- Collaborate with instructional teams to maximize student engagement and access
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting services in accordance with district policy
- Stay up to date with best practices and participate in required professional development
