Sign Language Interpreter in Rockmart, GA
Empower students and help shape inclusive educational environments as a contract Sign Language Interpreter. Qualifications and Experience Desired:
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and mastery of interpreting skills
• Completion of an accredited Sign Language Interpreter training program or equivalent experience
• Prior experience interpreting in educational or school settings preferred
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the unique communication needs of students
• Excellent listening, memory, and multitasking abilities
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
• Flexibility to adapt to different subjects, grade levels, and classroom dynamics
• Comfortable collaborating with teachers, support staff, and parents
Key Responsibilities:
• Interpret spoken language into ASL and/or other sign language systems in real-time for students and staff
• Facilitate clear communication during instruction, group work, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
• Serve as a linguistic and cultural bridge, helping ensure students’ full participation
• Support teachers by clarifying lessons or instructions as needed
• Adjust interpreting style to match linguistic abilities and needs of individual students
• Contribute to team meetings, individualized education plan (IEP) discussions, and ongoing student support
• Uphold confidentiality and maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times
