Virtual Sign Language Interpreter (South Carolina Licensed)

 Remote / Virtual Full-Time

We are seeking a qualified and dependable Virtual Sign Language Interpreter to provide high-quality, one-on-one interpreting services in a remote educational setting. The ideal candidate is committed to ensuring effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and educational staff while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural competence.

This position is fully virtual and requires the ability to work independently in an online environment using secure video conferencing technology.

Responsibilities
Provide real-time American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation during one-on-one virtual educational sessions.
Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and other educational professionals.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and other applicable privacy regulations.
Prepare for scheduled assignments by reviewing available materials when appropriate.
Maintain professional interpreting standards, neutrality, and ethical conduct.
Communicate effectively with school staff regarding scheduling and student support needs.
Ensure a reliable internet connection and maintain a professional remote work environment.
Attend required virtual meetings and training sessions as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Current South Carolina Sign Language Interpreter License, or ability to acquire license in a timely manner (Required).
Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
Experience providing educational interpreting services preferred.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a virtual environment.
Reliable high-speed internet service and a professional home office setup.
Proficiency with video conferencing platforms and basic computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with K–12 students.
National interpreter certification (RID or equivalent) is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom practices.
Familiarity with special education environments and student support services.
