Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Round Lake, Illinois
Three contract positions are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters who are passionate about supporting students in an educational setting. These roles are located near Round Lake, IL and are entirely onsite, working alongside students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school environment.
There are openings for two separate assignments:
- High School (9th-12th grades): 1 position at a local high school, from August 10th, 2026, through May 20th, 2027. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 8:00am-3:30pm, for 35 hours per week. The caseload involves 12 total students, with 1-3 students per class requiring interpretation.
- Elementary/Middle School (Kindergarten-8th grade): 2 positions at an elementary/middle school location, from August 17th, 2026, through May 28th, 2027. The hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15am-3:45pm, also totaling 35 hours per week. This caseload features 30 students, typically interpreting for 1-5 students per class.
Qualifications:
- Certified Sign Language Interpreter with proficiency supporting K-12 students
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher is mandatory; please provide proof in the form of a confirmed screenshot
- Professional experience in an educational setting preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Able to work onsite throughout the contract period
- Comfortable specifying your preferred age group (elementary/middle or high school)
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students and staff throughout the school day
- Support classroom instruction, activities, and student communication
- Collaborate with teachers, special educators, and related staff to ensure student success
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines at all times
