Sign Language Interpreter in Round Lake, IL
Make an impact in the classroom by supporting students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter. This contract role offers both full-time and part-time options for the upcoming academic year. You’ll work in an educational environment with a collaborative team, bridging communication and helping students gain full access to their education.
Positions are available to start with institute/training days in August and run through late May. Full-time professionals will cover both a high school and a dedicated learning center, while part-time openings focus exclusively on high school grades. Both roles are onsite only, ensuring a supportive, interactive atmosphere for students and staff.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency as a professional Sign Language Interpreter
- Valid EIPA score of 3.5+ and ISBE Approval, OR
- EIPA score of 3.0–3.4 with ISBE Interim Approval
- BEI or NIC credentials also accepted with ISBE Approval
- Experience working with high school students (preferred)
- Ability to interpret for classroom settings and 1:1 student scenarios
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards
What You’ll Do:
- Provide sign language interpreting for students in K–12 classrooms (primarily high school)
- Adapt communication styles to meet varying student needs
- Foster inclusion by supporting accessible communication between students, staff, and peers
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and educational teams
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development
- Adhere to school and district guidelines for onsite service
