This contract opportunity focuses on providing essential sign language interpreting services for a student who uses a wheelchair, ensuring they receive comprehensive communication support throughout the academic year.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver on-site sign language interpretation for classroom instruction, small group activities, and individual student needs per parental request (not virtual).
- Facilitate clear communication between SPED teachers, staff, and the student during classes, therapy sessions, and school-related activities.
- Support the student’s access to curriculum and school events by offering adaptive communication solutions as needed.
- Work collaboratively with educational staff to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy when adapting to the student’s unique requirements.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter with an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher.
- Previous experience interpreting in educational or adaptive classroom settings is highly preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents while recognizing and honoring diverse needs.
- Commitment to working on-site as requested by the student’s family.
- Compassionate, patient demeanor, especially when assisting students with different abilities.
This position involves a full academic year schedule (August 3, 2026 to May 21, 2027), with 37.5 hours per week onsite, providing stability and the chance to build meaningful relationships in a rewarding educational environment.
