Qualifications & Skills:
- Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing BEI I or II (previous system), or Basic (current system)
- Experience interpreting in educational settings strongly preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and familiarity with Deaf culture
- Flexibility to support a caseload of students across grades PK-8
- Willingness to complete the required district fingerprinting and background check before starting
- Effective communication, professionalism, and adaptability
Your Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, staff, and peers through American Sign Language
- Support educational access in classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings as needed
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and special education professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and ensure appropriate accommodations
- Provide interpreting services at one campus, building rapport and continuity with assigned students
- Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all school and district policies and credentialing requirements
