Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Schertz, Texas
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of PK–8 students as a Certified Sign Language Interpreter in a supportive school environment. This contract opportunity focuses on providing in-person interpreting services for one campus, helping students with hearing impairments fully engage in their educational experience for the 2026–2027 school year.
Your expertise will bridge communication between students, educators, and families, ensuring accessibility and promoting academic success for learners using sign language. The assignment begins as soon as credentialing requirements are fulfilled and continues through the end of May 2027.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Valid certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (BEI I or II under previous system, or Basic under current)
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation in educational settings
- Experience working with PK–8 students preferred
- Ability to complete and pass district fingerprinting and background check prior to start
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students, staff, and families in classroom and school activities
- Facilitate effective communication between all parties, adapting language level to meet student needs
- Collaborate with the educational team to support individual learning goals and IEP requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Participate in IEP meetings and other relevant school functions as needed
The standard schedule will be confirmed with the district, with the likely assignment being 37.5 hours per week on a single campus.
