This contract role starts as soon as possible and continues through May 26, 2027, with on-site service at a single school location. The weekly hours are likely to be 37.5, but will be confirmed with the program coordinator. Your work will have a direct impact on students’ daily experiences, making a meaningful difference within the classroom environment.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Certified Interpreter for the Deaf, holding either Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: BEI I or II certification (or Basic under the current system)
- Experience interpreting for children in an educational setting, ideally across PK–8 grade levels
- In-depth knowledge of sign language interpretation techniques and ethical standards
- Commitment to student confidentiality and privacy
- Successful completion of district fingerprinting and background check (time-sensitive requirement)
- Flexibility and professionalism in adapting to changing educational needs
Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, assignments, and interactions between students, faculty, and peers
- Facilitate clear communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing to ensure equal participation
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to adapt materials and approaches as needed
- Maintain detailed records of services provided and participate in team meetings
- Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment
