Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience working with students in educational settings (middle school experience preferred)
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or state equivalent, preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and school staff
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers or teachers via ASL interpretation
  • Support classroom learning and ensure access to instructional materials
  • Assist with interpreting during extracurricular events as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical standards related to interpretation
  • Provide cultural mediation when appropriate
