Online Sign Language Interpreter - AK
A contract opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a 3rd-grade female student in Alaska. This role focuses on providing 1:1 interpreting services within a school setting, utilizing telehealth methods as needed. The position requires a flexible schedule primarily Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with Fridays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM designated for professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and effective sign language interpretation for classroom instruction and related activities.
- Facilitate communication between the student and educators to support academic success.
- Adapt to telehealth platforms to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Manage a flexible schedule aligned with student attendance, typically averaging 30 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Possess an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.8 or higher.
- Hold valid written certification or a Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) credential.
- Demonstrate experience working with elementary-level students requiring sign language interpretation.
- Ability to navigate telehealth technology proficiently.
- Exhibit professionalism and adaptability to student attendance patterns, given the per diem nature of the position.
Location:
- The role is based in Akiachak, Alaska, operating within local school hours on Alaska Standard Time, which is four hours behind Eastern Standard Time.
