Online Sign Language Interpreter - AK
A Sign Language Interpreter is sought to provide dedicated telehealth and in-person interpreting services for a 1:1 third-grade female student in a school setting located in Napakiak, Alaska. This contract position requires interpreting support aligned with Alaska Standard Time, observing the school schedule from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays, with Friday afternoons reserved for professional development.
Key responsibilities include translating spoken language into sign language to facilitate the student’s communication and learning, ensuring alignment with educational activities and telehealth sessions. Consistent attendance and adaptability are essential, considering the student’s history of frequent absences. The position typically involves approximately 30 hours per week, with consideration for per diem flexibility.
Qualifications:
- EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.8 or higher
- Valid BEI (Board for Evaluation of Interpreters) certification or higher
- Previous experience in educational and telehealth interpreting preferred
- Familiarity with Alaska Standard Time scheduling
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work professionally within a school environment
