Online Sign Language Interpreter in AK
A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 1:1 assignment with a 3rd-grade female student in an educational setting located in Kwethluk, Alaska. The role requires telehealth capabilities alongside in-person interpreting, adapting to the needs of a student who benefits from consistent communication support.
Work hours align with the school schedule, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with Friday afternoons dedicated to professional development. All times observe Alaska Standard Time, which is four hours behind Eastern Standard Time.
Essential qualifications for this position include:
- A minimum EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.8 or higher
- Possession of either the written EIPA certification or BEI (Board for Evaluation of Interpreters) certification
- Experience with telehealth interpreting services in an educational context is highly valuable
- Ability to adapt to variable attendance patterns, as the student has a history of frequent absences
Responsibilities include facilitating effective communication between the student and educational staff, ensuring access to classroom content, and providing support during telehealth sessions when required. This role demands flexibility due to the student’s attendance variability, typically requiring around 30 hours of service weekly with a per diem payment structure.
