Remote Educational Sign Language Interpreter | Alaska
Provide specialized communication support through sign language interpretation services for a 3rd grade female student in a school setting located in Bethel, Alaska. This contract position focuses on delivering effective telehealth and in-person interpretation tailored to meet the educational needs of the student.
Responsibilities include:
- Offering 1:1 sign language interpretation to facilitate the student’s access to classroom instruction and school activities.
- Ensuring clear and accurate communication between the student, educators, and support staff.
- Adhering to Alaska Standard Time hours from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays (afternoons reserved for professional development).
- Maintaining consistent attendance to support the student’s educational progress, recognizing that the role typically requires approximately 30 hours per week with a flexible schedule due to the student’s variable attendance pattern.
Qualifications and experience:
- An Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.8 or higher or a valid BEI certification.
- Prior experience with telehealth sign language interpretation is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of effective communication strategies for school-aged children, especially in a 1:1 educational setting.
- Ability to adapt to fluctuating schedules and maintain reliability despite attendance variability.
- Familiarity with Alaska Standard Time and commitment to working during specified school hours.
