In this in-person, contract position, you'll be on campus working closely with students and staff to ensure access to communication and educational opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid and current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- 4.0 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score or higher required
- Strong receptive and expressive American Sign Language (ASL) skills
- Previous experience working in educational settings a plus
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional ethical standards
- Ability to work collaboratively and supportively with teachers, staff, and families
- Must be available for full-time, on-site work
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
- Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students, peers, faculty, and staff
- Adapt interpreting style to fit the needs and abilities of individual students
- Support students' participation in academic lessons, extracurricular events, and social interactions
- Assist with clarification of instructions, assignments, and classroom discussions
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
