Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Valid certification or state licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (as required by local regulations)
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in an educational or school setting preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit professionalism at all times
- Adaptable to a fast-paced, changing environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language, and vice versa, during classroom instruction, meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events
- Support students’ access to academic content and participation in classroom activities
- Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to understand the needs of students and deliver effective interpreting services
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing lesson plans or materials in advance
- Effectively manage multiple assignments or requests throughout the school day
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting services as needed
