Key Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and experienced as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Previous work as a school-based interpreter or ASL teacher is highly valued
- Capable of engaging 1:1 with a non-verbal elementary student within a classroom environment
- Familiarity with elementary educational practices, particularly self-contained classrooms
- Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries while fostering a supportive learning atmosphere
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive 1:1 interpreting services for an elementary-aged, non-verbal student
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between student, peers, and educators using ASL
- Support classroom learning and participation within a self-contained environment
- Adapt interpreting techniques to match the student’s communication and learning needs
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with educational staff as required
- Maintain accurate records in line with school protocols
