Enhance the educational experience for students who are deaf or hard of hearing by using your expertise in sign language interpretation for a full academic year assignment. A contract opportunity is available beginning August 3, 2026, and lasting through May 28, 2027. Professionals in this role will provide essential communication support, fostering inclusion and access within school settings. The position offers 37.5 hours each week during standard school year dates, with placements available at several campuses in the scenic region near Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head Island.
Desired Qualifications:
- Current experience working in educational settings as a sign language interpreter
- Minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Commitment to upholding student confidentiality and supporting inclusive practices
- Ability to quickly adapt to K-12 environments and school routines
- Flexibility to work at any of the available campus locations as needed
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students and staff in classroom and school activities
- Support students’ understanding of instructional content and peer interactions
- Partner with educators and support staff to facilitate individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and student progress
- Assist in ensuring a supportive, accessible, and engaging learning environment for all students
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, and school events as required
