Step into an impactful role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. Multiple school placements are available in the beautiful Hilton Head Island area, including sites in Beaufort and Bluffton. As a member of a dedicated educational team, you'll foster accessible learning for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students while building meaningful connections in a vibrant school community.
The assignment begins August 3, 2026 and concludes May 28, 2027, with a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week. You'll be stationed at one of several schools, working collaboratively with educators, students, and other interpreters.
Desired Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Sign Language Interpreter credential with a minimum 3.5 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret in classroom and school settings
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and student privacy
- Professionalism in communication and teamwork
- Previous experience in K-12 educational environments is highly desirable
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language to ASL and vice versa in a variety of educational and student settings
- Support full participation of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in classroom learning, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff to optimize instructional access
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to ethical and professional interpreting standards
