Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Okatie, SC

Make a real difference in students' lives by providing expert sign language interpretation services within a supportive school setting. This contract opportunity is designed for skilled professionals who are passionate about ensuring accessible communication and fostering inclusive learning environments. You'll work 37.5 hours per week, from August 3, 2026, through May 28, 2027, serving at one of several educational campuses in either Beaufort or Bluffton.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably within an educational environment
- A minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
- Proficiency in interpreting for students in K-12 settings
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and students
- Strong sense of professionalism and commitment to student support
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide reliable interpreting services to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school staff
- Support classroom instruction, extracurricular activities, and school-related events as needed
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the needs of individual students and different classroom environments
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to advocate for students' educational goals
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the ethical standards of the interpreting profession
