Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting preferred
- RID or relevant national certification strongly encouraged
- Ability to interpret accurately between spoken English and ASL in real-time
- Professionalism, adaptability, and awareness of classroom protocols
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with students, staff, and educators
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services for students who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing during classroom instruction, events, and school activities
- Support communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Adapt signing to meet individual students’ language levels and communication styles
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with school personnel as needed
- Assist with note-taking and clarification to ensure full educational access
