Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working or volunteering as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school or educational settings
- Knowledge of classroom terminology, lesson delivery, and the educational needs of Deaf/HH students
- Certification as an educational interpreter is highly desirable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Committed to punctuality and reliability
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate, impartial interpretation between spoken English and ASL in classrooms, assemblies, and school meetings
- Prepare for classes by reviewing lesson plans and relevant materials as needed
- Foster effective communication among students, educators, and school staff with sensitivity to cultural and individual needs
- Assist educators in modifying instructional methods when appropriate to support access
- Support student engagement by encouraging participation and clarifying interpreted content
- Uphold all ethical and professional standards for educational interpreters
