Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Bolingbrook, Illinois
Make a positive impact in the classroom by supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting. We are actively seeking two qualified professionals for contract positions in the upcoming school year: one full-time interpreter to serve students from early childhood through third grade, and another interpreter to provide FMLA coverage at the high school level.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational environments preferred
- Ability to collaborate with educators, service providers, and support staff
- Comfortable working in both mainstream and DHH classrooms, as well as one-on-one settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Professional certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
Role Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers through interpretation services
- Support students by interpreting in a variety of instructional settings, including whole group, small group, and during related service sessions
- Adapt interpreting techniques to suit different grade levels, from EC through high school
- Work closely with service providers, DHH teachers, and classroom staff to create an inclusive educational environment
- Maintain confidentiality and respect students’ privacy at all times
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere while advocating for students' needs
Job Details:
- Full school year opening serving EC-3rd grade students, July 29 – May 25, 8:05 am–3:35 pm, supporting a range of mainstream and specialized settings
- FMLA coverage at the high school level, July 29 – October 31, 7:35 am–2:52 pm (Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri), and 7:35 am–3:00 pm (Wed), working with a diverse group of students including mainstream and those supported by Deaf educators
