Full School Year Assignment:
Work with EC-3rd grade students, assisting them throughout the day in mainstream classrooms, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) settings, and alongside service providers. The school year runs from July 29 to May 25, with hours from 8:05 am to 3:35 pm.
FMLA Coverage:
Provide support for high school students (grades 9-12) in mainstream classes and within DHH-focused instruction. This position covers a block schedule during the dates of July 29 to October 31. Hours are 7:35 am to 2:52 pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and 7:35 am to 3:00 pm on Wednesdays.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with interpreting in educational settings
- Ability to adapt to various student needs and grade-level content
- Collaborative spirit, working effectively with general education teachers, DHH staff, and related service providers
- Experience interpreting for students in both mainstream and specialized settings preferred
- Flexibility to adjust communication styles as needed
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa, facilitating classroom participation
- Support communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Maintain professional and ethical standards in line with interpreting best practices
- Participate in team meetings, collaborating to support student success
