This full-time contract opportunity is centered on supporting a high school student for the entire 2026–2027 academic year. You’ll work closely with students and staff to ensure effective communication, helping to promote an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially secondary-level environments
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, accessibility best practices, and educational accommodations
- Current certification or license as a Sign Language Interpreter (as required by the state)
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to establish rapport with high school-aged students and school personnel
Role Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for a high school student who is Deaf or hard of hearing
- Facilitate confidential and effective communication between the student, peers, and staff across classes and events
- Adapt interpreting methods to best fit individual student needs and course requirements
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and collaborate with educational teams to support the student’s learning goals
- Assist with preparation of interpreting schedules and provide insights on accessibility within the learning environment
