Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
- Prior experience working in a school setting preferred, ideally with high school-aged students
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a thorough understanding of deaf culture
- Ability to follow educational plans and collaborate with teachers and staff effectively
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to professional standards of confidentiality and ethics
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL during classes, meetings, and activities
- Support students by ensuring access to both academic and extracurricular content
- Work closely with educators to communicate lesson material accurately and to adapt interpreting approaches as needed
- Encourage student participation and help foster an inclusive learning environment
- Maintain accurate records of services provided and adhere to all district policies
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to student progress discussions
