Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Chesapeake, Virginia

This full-time, contract-based position offers the chance to make a direct impact, working primarily in 1:1 settings with students during the academic year. Assignments are flexible—when your assigned student is unavailable, you’ll provide needed coverage in other locations, ensuring your valuable skills are always in demand.
Qualifications:
- VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher (candidates with a minimum score of 3.0 will be considered for interviews)
- QAS score of 3 or better also considered
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably at the elementary level
- Proficiency in Visaphonics is a plus, but not required
- Commitment to working fully onsite; remote or hybrid work is not available for this role
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation for assigned students, facilitating communication throughout the school day
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs, with a focus on elementary-age learners
- Move between campuses as needed to support students or fill in, ensuring consistent interpreter coverage
- Collaborate with educators and student support staff to create accessible learning environments
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations
This position runs from August 25, 2026, through June 15, 2027, featuring consistent weekday hours (Monday – Friday, 35 hours weekly). You’ll gain valuable experience within a supportive educational community, working closely with dedicated professionals committed to student success.
