Step into a dynamic school-based setting providing pivotal support as a Sign Language Interpreter for elementary students in the vibrant Virginia Beach area. In this full-time, contract position, you’ll work closely in a 1:1 environment, empowering young learners to thrive in the classroom and beyond. Leverage your specialized skills and passion for communication to facilitate understanding and inclusion throughout the academic year.
What You’ll Bring:
- Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5; candidates with a minimum of 3.0 may be considered, or a Quality Assurance Screening (QAS) score of 3 or better
- Experience providing sign language interpretation in educational settings, especially with elementary-age students
- Adaptability to move between campuses as directed, in response to student attendance and coverage needs
- Familiarity with Visaphonics is a plus, but not required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and student-centered support
Daily Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 sign language interpretation services, supporting assigned students throughout their school day
- Adapt style and approach to match student needs, settings, and instructional materials
- Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to optimize student experiences and outcomes
- Remain flexible to provide coverage at other locations if assigned students are absent
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality at all times
This opportunity offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule with 35 hours per week throughout the school year, making a meaningful impact on students’ access to education.
