Step into a rewarding contract opportunity providing essential communication support for elementary students in the vibrant Virginia Beach area. This full-time position runs from August 25, 2026, through June 15, 2027, offering 35 hours per week (Monday through Friday). As a skilled sign language interpreter, you’ll play a critical role in facilitating learning and engagement for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, working 1:1 in educational settings.
Your assignment will not be limited to one campus; flexibility is key, as you may provide coverage at other locations if your assigned student is absent. Visaphonics, while a preferred communication mode, is not required for the role. This opportunity is campus-based, with no remote or hybrid options.
What you bring:
- Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- EIPA Score of 3.5 or above highly preferred; candidates with a 3.0 or above will be considered for interviews
- Alternatively, a QAS Score of 3 or higher is acceptable
- Experience interpreting in a school setting, preferably for elementary-age students
- Strong communication, adaptability, and collaboration skills
- Reliability and professionalism as a contract interpreter
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing direct sign language interpretation for elementary-aged students in academic settings
- Collaborating closely with educational staff to support students’ individual needs
- Traveling between campuses as needed for coverage
- Adhering to all confidentiality and ethical standards of interpreting in educational environments
