Help provide vital support to students by utilizing your Sign Language Interpreter skills in a rewarding school-based environment near Virginia Beach, VA. This contract opportunity spans the 2026–2027 academic year, where you’ll engage in meaningful 1:1 interpreting, primarily with elementary-aged students. Your expertise will play an integral role in enhancing educational accessibility and inclusion across multiple school sites, depending on student need.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for EIPA Score of 3.5; applicants with scores above 3.0 considered
- Alternatively, a QAS Score of 3 or higher
- Demonstrated skills in sign language interpreting within school settings
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and adapting to different campuses as needed
- Familiarity with Visaphonics communication style is a plus, but not required
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct 1:1 sign language interpretation services to elementary students
- Adapt to day-to-day assignments as students’ needs and school placements change
- Foster accessible communication between students, staff, and peers
- Contribute to a supportive learning atmosphere, facilitating engagement and participation
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all interactions
What You Can Expect:
- Contract runs from August 25, 2026, through June 15, 2027
- Full-time schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday
- Exposure to a wide range of educational experiences across several campuses
