Support educational access as a Sign Language Interpreter working full-time throughout the school year. This contract role travels to various districts across Lake County, providing critical communication support for students from early childhood through 12th grade (EC–12th). Your work empowers students who are deaf or hard of hearing to thrive in the classroom and participate fully in school life.

Each day runs from 8:00am to 3:30pm, including a well-deserved lunch, totaling 7.5 structured hours. You’ll assist a caseload of approximately 12 to 18 students, adapting to different grade levels and school environments as you travel between sites. Your expertise helps foster inclusion, understanding, and success for every learner you support.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings
  • Strong understanding of IEP implementation and educational interpreting
  • Flexibility to serve multiple age groups, from early childhood to high school
  • Ability to travel between different districts and adapt quickly to new school communities
  • Professional certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, meetings, and extracurricular activities to facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers
  • Support the educational and social development of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate with teachers, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, and support staff to ensure accessible curriculum delivery
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions
  • Adapt interpreting style to suit individual student needs and educational settings
