Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in school or educational settings
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC), EIPA, or state credential preferred
- Ability to interpret accurately in varied instructional and social circumstances
- Professional, adaptable, and patient—able to work with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards in educational interpreting
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, student discussions, and school events between ASL and spoken English
- Support individual and group communication for students, staff, and families
- Collaborate with educators and support personnel to promote an inclusive learning experience
- Prepare for lessons by reviewing materials and vocabulary as needed for effective interpretation
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and student progress
- Respond professionally to feedback and adjust interpreting strategies as needed
