Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Experience interpreting in an educational environment or with school-aged children
- State and/or national certifications for Sign Language Interpreters (such as RID, EIPA, or comparable credentials)
- Ability to adapt communication styles for varied settings and student needs
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct sign language interpreting services for students and/or staff during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
- Work closely with teachers, aides, and special education professionals to ensure full access to curriculum and communications
- Assist in developing and delivering ASL instruction as needed for students or staff
- Offer guidance to peers and teachers on best practices in working with students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and collaborate on student progress where appropriate
- Maintain accurate logs of services provided while upholding strict confidentiality
