Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Cicero, IL
Step into a rewarding short-term opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a young elementary student for summer programming. This contract position, located near Cicero, IL, runs from July 6th through July 23rd, 2026, and offers a focused, one-on-one caseload. Work closely with a single elementary-aged student, providing essential interpretation services during summer session hours, Monday through Thursday, 8am to 12pm. Qualifications:
- Valid EIPA score of 4.0 or higher required
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience providing interpretation services in educational environments, especially elementary settings, preferred
- Strong communication skills, both expressive and receptive
- Ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with students and school staff
- Commitment to professional conduct and maintaining confidentiality
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) for a single elementary student
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers
- Support classroom participation and understanding of instructional material
- Provide interpretation in a variety of school environments (classroom, group activities, etc.)
- Demonstrate flexibility when responding to the evolving needs of the student
- Maintain professional standards and adhere to all school procedures
