Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret fluently in educational settings.
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in schools or with children and young adults.
- Understanding of classroom settings, including IEP meetings, student activities, and extracurricular events.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with educators, students, and families.
- National or state certification (such as EIPA, RID, or Ohio Interpreter Licensure) is highly desired.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate real-time communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their classmates, teachers, and staff.
- Interpret a variety of subjects and classroom discussions, supporting effective learning and engagement.
- Translate lesson content, instructions, and student responses both in group settings and one-on-one sessions.
- Support participation in school functions, assemblies, and meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with school personnel to adapt to changing classroom dynamics and student needs.
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting services provided.
