Make a meaningful difference in the life of an elementary student by providing dedicated, one-on-one sign language interpreting support throughout their school day. This full-time, school-based contract opportunity places you at the heart of inclusive education, collaborating closely within a mainstream classroom environment and enabling clear communication and active participation for your assigned student. The role is located in the Aurora, IL area, and spans 35 hours per week during the academic year.
Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- EIPA score of 3.0 or higher (required)
- PEL (Professional Educator License) for interpreting in schools – either active or applied for
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and a strong command of interpreting within an educational setting
- Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in schools is highly valued
- Ability to adapt interpreting style to suit individual student needs and mainstream classroom instruction
- Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with teachers, staff, and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, one-on-one sign language interpretation for an elementary student in all classroom settings and school activities
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment through clear and accurate communication
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education teams, and administrators to ensure effective support and facilitate academic success
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and staff interactions
- Assist with preparation and use of classroom materials as needed to support the student’s learning
