A full-time, onsite Sign Language Interpreter is needed to work 1:1 with a kindergartner who is completely deaf and just beginning their sign language journey. This elementary school position is perfect for someone passionate about making a direct, meaningful impact in a child’s life.
You’ll provide essential visual supports and communication access to ensure your student can thrive in the classroom environment. The role runs approximately 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, giving you steady daytime hours and the satisfaction of watching your direct work benefit a single student every day.
What you’ll bring:
- Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- State or national licensure, as required
- Experience interpreting for young children, preferably at the elementary level
- Strong skills in visual support and adapting communication strategies
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with students new to sign language
- Ability to collaborate closely with teachers and support teams
- Comfortable working 1:1 and adapting quickly to student needs
- Willingness to interview as a travel professional is welcomed
Responsibilities include:
- Providing real-time interpretation between the student, teachers, and peers
- Developing visual supports tailored to kindergarten learning
- Supporting your student’s social and academic development
- Coordinating with educational staff to ensure full participation for your student
- Offering feedback and strategies as your student acquires new sign language skills
