You’ll work 1:1 with a kindergartner who is completely deaf and just beginning their journey with sign language, requiring attentive visual supports and personalized communication strategies. Key Qualifications:
- Current certification and licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter, meeting local and state requirements for educational settings
- Previous experience in elementary school environments strongly preferred
- Skilled in providing tailored 1:1 interpreting services
- Ability to create and utilize visual aids to foster comprehension and engagement
- Patient, empathetic communicator, sensitive to the needs of children new to sign language
- Willingness to collaborate with teachers and support staff to enhance student learning
- Open to both local and travel candidates who can commit to an onsite schedule
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide continuous 1:1 sign language interpretation during the school day (approximately 7:30 am – 2:30 pm)
- Adapt interpreting methods to meet the needs of a student just learning sign language
- Utilize visual supports and innovative strategies to aid in language acquisition and classroom participation
- Deliver clear, effective communication in all educational settings, from the classroom to special activities
- Serve as a collaborative resource for teachers and school staff, ensuring the student’s growth and confidence
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with all student and district policies
