Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Gig Harbor, Washington
Step into an impactful role supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an elementary classroom setting. This contract opportunity near Gig Harbor, WA, spans the academic year from September 3, 2025, through June 23, 2026. The position offers 31.5 hours per week, providing consistent and meaningful work during school days. Your daily contributions will ensure accessible education by performing sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation in classrooms and other school environments, while fostering inclusive communication between students, staff, and community members.
Key Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a recognized Interpreter Training Program
- Current RID certification and/or EIPA assessment with a score of 4.0 or higher (requirement under Washington State law)
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License or demonstrated reliable transportation
- Previous experience in a school-based setting preferred
- Strong understanding of IDEA and ADA compliance, and a commitment to educational access for D/HH students
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide effective sign language interpretation to facilitate full participation of D/HH students in classroom and school-related activities
- Support communication between students, educators, staff, and community members, adapting language to various levels and settings
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, assist in the implementation of instructional activities under guidance as needed
- Ensure compliance with all legal regulations regarding interpreting in educational environments
- Foster a supportive, respectful, and inclusive learning atmosphere
