Two positions are available: Full-time for the academic year at Dean Leaman Jr. High School, and a short-term, full work day per week at Foster High School during the start of the school year. These roles are pivotal in promoting access and inclusion for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in both academic and extracurricular settings.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current interpreter certification through the Registry for the Deaf or TX Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Valid TX Driver’s License
- Previous experience working with children is required
- Able to complete fingerprinting for district credentialing (if not already on file)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation in classrooms, school meetings, and co-curricular activities such as choir, dance, and cheerleading, including additional hours for extracurricular events
- Attend and interpret during Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings
- Support student learning as a tutor under a teacher’s guidance
- Maintain administrative records and prepare necessary documentation
- Assist with student behavior management and adapt communication approaches as needed for individual students
- Communicate special needs or concerns to teaching staff
- Uphold confidentiality, participate in professional development, and attend faculty meetings and events
- Fulfill any additional duties assigned by supervisors
