Qualifications & Skills:
- Interpreter certification from either the Registry for the Deaf or TX Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Minimum experience working with children
- Flexibility for both instructional hours and additional support during extracurricular activities (choir, dance, cheer)
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
- Willingness to complete required fingerprinting for district credentialing
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation in educational settings, including classrooms, special programs, meetings, and school events
- Support students during extracurricular activities (including cheerleading, choir, football season, and dance)
- Interpret at ARD Committee meetings as needed
- Tutor students under teacher direction
- Assist with administrative records and report preparation
- Help manage and positively support student behavior, intervening in crisis situations if necessary
- Adapt communication to meet individual student needs and keep teachers informed of special concerns
- Participate in ongoing professional development, faculty meetings, and special events
