Step into a vital role supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in a thriving educational environment near Kenner, LA. This full-time contract opportunity runs from August 3, 2026, through May 27, 2027, following the school calendar, with consistent Monday through Friday hours. Serving one or more campuses in the New Orleans area, you’ll help facilitate communication and education for students who are deaf or hard of hearing across various age groups.
Your expertise will ensure access, inclusion, and academic success for the students who need you most, working closely with educators and support staff in a collaborative, student-focused setting.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation within educational settings
- REQUIRED: Current Louisiana Department of Education certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Familiarity with best practices for working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Flexibility in adapting communication and interpretation styles for varying age groups and classroom settings
- Initiative, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to pass required district background screening (drug screen and fingerprints)
What you’ll do:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities in real time
- Support clear communication between students, staff, and peers
- Collaborate with teachers and support personnel to foster inclusive learning environments
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all district and departmental policies
- Adapt quickly to changing assignments or caseloads as determined by the district
