Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current educational interpreter certification issued by the Louisiana Department of Education
- Proven experience interpreting in K-12 school settings is highly preferred
- In-depth knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with various communication modes used by Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Ability to collaborate seamlessly with educators, support staff, and other interpreters
- Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic school environment and varying assignment types
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide effective interpreting services in classrooms, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities as needed
- Serve as a communication link between students, teachers, and school staff
- Assist in fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment that honors students’ diverse needs
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards at all times
- Participate in team meetings and professional development activities alongside fellow interpreters and contractors
