This onsite position for a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) is full-time, offering approximately 30 hours per week during the 26-27 school year, with ongoing needs beginning as soon as possible. You’ll play a vital part in facilitating accessible communication and learning for middle and high school students alongside dedicated educators and staff.
Qualifications:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a 4.0+ score on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments
- Candidates with EIPA scores below 4.0 are encouraged to apply and may be referred to as ASL Paraprofessionals
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to provide accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
- Experience supporting students in academic areas including reading, writing, math, and vocational or independent living skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, teachers, and school personnel
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate meaningful interactions and engagement between deaf/hard of hearing students and their peers, teachers, and support staff
- Deliver high-quality interpreting services within classroom and extracurricular activities
- Support student learning in academic and practical subjects
- Monitor and assist students throughout the school day, including during classroom, outdoor, and community-based activities
- Adjust support to meet the diverse needs of both middle and high school students
This onsite role is available at multiple locations with five positions open, and you’ll have the chance to indicate your grade-level preference. School-based interpreting work offers fulfilling connection and career development in a vibrant educational setting.
